How to Make a Gemstone Spider

To make a spider you will need: 4 x 10cms 0.64mm wire, 1 x 12cms 0.81mm wire, 1 x 14cms 1.00mm wire, 1 x 8mm gemstone and 1 x 4mm silver plated bead.

Step 1

Take each length of 0.64mm wire and wrap around the 0.81mm wire as shown to create a loop in the middle of the length.

Step 2

(1) Add an 8mm gemstone to the 0.81mm wire.  (2) Wrap the wire around the gemstone as shown.  (3) Turn the gemstone over and wrap around again. (4) Cut the wire as shown.

Step 3

Thread on the 4 x lengths of wire from Step one and a 4mm silver plated bead.

Step 4

Wrap the wire around the 4mm bead as you did in Step 2. Your spider is now complete and ready to add to your pendant later.

How to Make a Wire Heart

Step 5

Make a bend in the middle of the 1.0mm wire.

Step 6

Close the bend with flat nose pliers.

Step 7

Turn the wire around and hold in flat nose pliers so you can separate the strands in opposite directions as shown.

Step 8

Shape each wire around a mandrel as shown. (a ring mandrel is perfect for this as it allows you to make different sizes if required)

Step 9

You should now have a heart shape.  Place the spider onto the heart to make sure the size is correct.

Step 10

Make a bend in each wire as shown one to the side and one straight down.

Step 11

(1) Wrap one wire around the other as shown.  (2) Use flat nose pliers to close the wrap and press in any sharp ends.  (3) Make a loop with the remaining wire using round nose pliers.  (4)  Your heart should look now like this.

How to Make a Gemstone Drop

Step 12

(1)  Cut approx. 7cms 0.64mm wire and make a loop a little way down the length as shown with round nose pliers.  (2) Hold the loop with flat nose pliers and wrap the wire around two or three times and cut off excess.  (3)  Add the silver plated bead and repeat the loop.

Step 13

Add an 8mm gemstone to a headpin and turn a loop using round nose pliers.

How to Assemble your Pendant

Step 14

You now have all elements to assemble your pendant.

Step 15

Place the spider over your heart pendant in the position you want.

Step 16

Wrap each wire around the heart frame twice as shown.

Step 17

Cut the wire at the back of the pendant leaving a small excess.

Step 18

Using flat nose pliers wrap the excess around the wire to finish off.

Step 19

Your pendant should now look like this.

How to finish off

Step 20

Add the gemstone drops to the loop on the pendant, add a jump ring and chain, your pendant is now complete.
