Scrap can be found in all manner of places from filings on the bench to traces in the u-bend of a sink, so it’s imperative you have systems in place to reclaim what is after all a valuable commodity. Most benches have some form of tray, tin or skin suspended underneath the work surface to catch small pieces of metal and dust. These areas need to be swept down and cleaned out regularly with a soft brush and you must keep all the debris in a dedicated jar or pot which is clearly marked. Our scrap pots are perfect for this, but any strong and sturdy container with a secure lid will do.

N.B Don’t be tempted to throw away any dust and dirt that accumulates around the bench as you will be amazed at just how much metal is hidden within it. The refining process will reveal every, last particle and turn it into cash, so it really is worth keeping everything.

When clearing down, don’t forget the floor underneath your working area. It’s a good idea to have some sort of hard flooring in place such as rubber matting or vinyl, which helps immensely with this, it also makes it much easier to find items that you drop whilst working.

It’s not just the obvious places that you need to check when reclaiming your scrap. You might be surprised at some of the more obscure places that precious metal can be found; here’s a list of some of the items we can accept:

  • Jewellery Scrap
  • Unwanted / damaged jewellery & watch parts

  • Assayed bar
  • Bench Lemels
  • Sweepings (polishing, emery floor sweeps)
  • Carpets & Floorings
  • Vacuum bags
