2021 Jewellery Trends

I think we are all looking forward to welcoming in a New Year, which will ideally be filled with fresh optimism, hope and opportunities, which have unfortunately been in short supply in 2020.

And although fashion trends may seem of little consequence to some, they continue to evolve and emerge irrespective of world events and in fact, provide us with some much-needed fun and escapism, which can be a great tonic for the soul during troubled times. With that in mind, let’s take a look into the future to see what we might expect to see on jewellers’ shelves as we look forward to 2021.

Beach beads

Not surprisingly, beach themes were very much in evidence on the Spring/Summer 21 catwalks as designers tap into the longing that so many people have for the return of their beloved summer holidays. Multi coloured strings of beads were showcased by Jason Wu, Versace and Kenneth Ize in the form of chokers and necklaces, which also included natural materials such as shells and raffia. This is an inexpensive and light-hearted theme easily replicated, which will certainly inject a bit of fun back into your wardrobe

Why not make your own version using some of our wooden beads which are available in a wide range of different sizes and finishes.

Pearls

Continuing with the seaside references, pearls look set to be popular once again with numerous examples of oversized earrings and chokers gracing the catwalks. Simone Rocha showcased elaborate headpieces and huge cluster style earrings all studded with milky white pearls which were a consistent theme amongst other designers. If you fancy a more subtle approach why not try our Sterling Silver/Pearl Shell Drop Earrings which capture two trends in one.

Shoulder Grazers

Earrings are very much the main focus in terms of accessories for SS21 and when you consider how many of us have only had our head and shoulders visible this year via zoom calls, this comes as no surprise. Earrings are something we can still show off and designers have capitalised on this by continuing where we left off this time last year with over-sized and mismatched attention-grabbing designs.  Styles are now so big they have been dubbed ‘Shoulder Grazers’ and Dolce and Gabbana led the way with some eye-popping examples which are sure to lift your spirits.

Oversized Chain

Again, following on from last year, macro chains will continue to dominate over smaller styles as designers such as Victoria Beckham and Givenchy favour the simple and the sleek for a bit of showstopping elegance. Fortunately, here at Cooksongold we specialise in chain so you won’t have to go too far to tap into this particular trend. Our large link, Sterling Silver Earrings fit the bill perfectly providing up to the minute elegance for under £10.

 Textured Metal

Finally, there were some great examples of textured metal accessories in the SS21 shows from Chloe and Acne Studios. Think molten metal and crushed tin foil and you won’t be too far off the mark. Designs were rigid and eye catching and included some beautiful sculptural cuffs from Chloe and gorgeous sheets of folded and textured metal earrings from Acne Studios. Our textured metal blanks pictured below are perfect for recreating this look at a fraction of the cost and made into earrings will certainly guarantee you are the centre of attention! Stay one step ahead and look forward to a New Year by shopping the trends today. Or if you would like to make your own, we also have a video by Elizabeth FJE Design that details how to texture metals yourself. See that below.
